Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other leaders are meeting in Kyiv to mark three years since the start of Russia's invasion. The move is seen as a show of solidarity as they attempt to realize a just peace. Zelenskyy said more than 10 leaders will visit on Monday. They are mainly from Europe, but also include the Canadian prime minister. Russia's invasion began on February 24, 2022. European Council President Antonio Costa said on social media that the "invasion shattered peace" in Ukraine and "caused tremendous suffering." He also said, "We have been with you from Day One." Ukrainians are remembering those who have died in the war, and many remain determined to protect their independence. In Kyiv, photographs of fallen soldiers cover walls that now serve as memorials. People were also seen laying flowers. A 47-year-old man who fought in the hostilities says thinking of the soldiers who have died leaves him deeply saddened. He also said he hopes for peace and security guarantees. The United States has been the largest backer of Ukraine. But President Donald Trump, who says he wants to end the war as soon as possible, has repeatedly criticized Zelenskyy. The US president has also made comments that appear to lean toward Russia.
