US President Donald Trump has revealed that tech giant Microsoft is considering taking control of the Chinese-affiliated video-sharing app TikTok. A law to ban the app in the United States unless its Chinese parent company ByteDance sells off its US business went into effect on January 19. But on January 20, Trump signed an executive order delaying the enforcement of the law by 75 days. On Monday, reporters aboard Air Force One asked if Microsoft is in discussions to acquire TikTok. Trump answered, "I would say yes," before adding that there is a lot of interest in TikTok. Trump suggested that other companies are considering a purchase too, saying, "I like bidding wars because you make your best deal." US media reports say software company Oracle and AI startup Perplexity are also interested in buying or merging with the app.
