Israel&#039;s military says it carried out an operation against a militant group based in southern Syria. Syria has denounced the attack as a war crime.
The Israeli military announced on Friday that it carried out the attack based on information that the group was plotting terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians.
It said the militants fired back, injuring six Israeli soldiers. It said the operation had concluded with &quot;all of the suspects&quot; apprehended and &quot;a number of terrorists&quot; dead.
Israeli troops have been stationed in a buffer zone on the border between Israel and Syria since the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December last year. They have also been operating in Syria in an alleged bid to prevent weapons falling into the hands of &quot;hostile forces.&quot;
Syria&#039;s state media reports that 13 people were killed in the Israeli raid.
In a statement, the foreign ministry of the country&#039;s interim government denounced the attack as &quot;a horrific massacre that claimed the lives of more than ten civilians, including women and children.&quot; It claimed that the Israeli act constitutes &quot;a full-fledged war crime.&quot;
It went on to say Syria considers &quot;the continuation of these criminal attacks a threat to security and stability in the region.&quot; It called on the international community to &quot;take immediate action to end the aggressive policies.&quot;
