China&#039;s Foreign Minister Wang Yi says his country supports the United Nation&#039;s central role in international affairs, and expressed Beijing&#039;s endorsement of multilateralism at the world body.
        
                    
                  
Wang chaired a Security Council meeting on multilateralism at the UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday.
        
                    
                  
Wang said, &quot;China supports the UN in playing a central role in international affairs and makes continuous contribution to the UN cause.&quot;
        
                    
                  
He added that China is &quot;the largest developing country in the world,&quot; and its personnel &quot;have become a crucial force in UN peacekeeping operations.&quot;
        
                    
                  
Wang&#039;s remarks are in sharp contrast to US President Donald Trump&#039;s more critical attitude toward the United Nations.
        
                    
                  
Acting US Ambassador to the UN Dorothy Shea said, &quot;China has consistently exploited its status as a developing nation within international organizations to advance its separate agenda.&quot;
        
                    
                  
Shea added that, &quot;there is a longstanding, deep, anti-Israel bias within the UN.&quot;
        
                    
                  
She said the United States is currently conducting a review of its support to the UN.
        
                    
                  
She said Washington &quot;will consider whether the actions of the organization are serving American interests, and whether it can be reformed.&quot;
        
                    
                  
Trump signed an executive order on February 4 withdrawing the United States from the UN Human Rights Council and called for reduced US funding to certain UN organizations.
