A: Hey there! Have any news popped up today? B: Not really, what's up? A: Well, there's this thing in Japan – they're warning people about heavy rain disasters happening in some parts of the east, like southern Tohoku and northern Kanto regions. B: Wow, that sounds serious! What are they saying exactly? A: Seems like the meteorological agency says the weather's pretty volatile across a wide area – from northeast to west Japan. They've been analyzing radar, and it looks like around 100-120mm of rain hit some prefectures yesterday afternoon into the evening – places like Gunma, Yamagata, Fukushima, and Tochigi. B: That's a lot! No wonder they're worried... A: They even issued warnings about a sudden flood in a short period of time to make people aware and secure their safety. It looks like the risks of landslides are particularly high in Fukushima and Tochigi because of all the rain. B: That does sound scary. Anything else they're saying? A: They're predicting more instability tomorrow, with localized downpours and thunderstorms forecast through tonight. They're urging people to be careful about flooding in low-lying areas, swollen rivers, lightning strikes, hail, and strong winds, including tornadoes! B: Sounds like they want everyone to stay safe and take this seriously... I hope everyone listens! ---------------- Weather officials in Japan are advising the public to be on high alert on Wednesday for heavy rain-related disasters in some parts of eastern Japan, such as southern Tohoku and northern Kanto regions. The Meteorological Agency says atmospheric conditions have become very unstable over areas stretching from the Tohoku region in the northeast to the Kinki region in the west. Radar analysis shows that approximately 100 to 120 millimeters of heavy rain likely fell from the afternoon through early evening in some prefectures, namely Gunma, Yamagata, Fukushima and Tochigi. The agency issued information about a record-breaking deluge within a short period of time. It was intended to alert people to secure their safety in these regions. Risks of landslides are greatly heightened in Fukushima and Tochigi due to accumulated rainfall in these areas. Atmospheric conditions are expected to remain unstable on Thursday. Localized downpours accompanied by thunder in some areas are forecast through late Wednesday night. The agency is calling for caution against flooding in low-lying areas, swollen rivers, lightning strikes, hail and strong winds including from tornadoes.
