More than a week after devastating earthquakes near the Turkish-Syrian border, rescue teams are finding fewer and fewer survivors.

Turkish media report that rescuers pulled out a teenager and his brother from the rubble on Tuesday. They had been trapped for more than eight days. But the death toll has passed 35,000 and continues to grow -- as does the amount of aid.

A Japanese Self-Defense Force plane carrying medical supplies arrived at a Turkish air base earlier in the day.
The load includes a portable medical facility that can host operations and accommodate beds. Many survivors are in dire need of medical assistance.

Japanese seismologists say the devastating earthquakes occurred along the East Anatolian Fault.
They say the area near the epicenters was a high-risk location where major quakes had not struck for more than five centuries.
