Japan to suspend some US-bound mail on tariff confusion NHK

Japan Post has said it will temporarily suspend accepting some US-bound postal items starting on Wednesday.

The announcement came following the Trump administration's decision to halt tariff exemption for low-cost items imported to the country.

Japan Post says items containing individual gifts with a value exceeding 100 dollars or those for sales purposes will not be accepted.

The company cites the unclear taxation procedure set by the US and the difficulty in taking further steps at this point.

It says it will continue accepting individual gifts with a content value of 100 dollars or less as they are not expected to be subject to taxation.

Items such as postcards and documents are not included in the suspension.
