US entrepreneur Elon Musk says the purpose of his new artificial intelligence development firm is to compete with developers of generative AI.
Musk answered open questions Friday about the firm xAI, using a Twitter function that makes real-time conversation possible. About 44,000 people took part.
This comes after he announced Wednesday the launch of xAI.
One participant asked if Musk sees himself as competition to OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, and Google, the developer of Bard.
Musk replied that he does. He said competition makes companies honest. He said, "You don't want to have a unipolar world where just one company kind of dominates in AI." He noted the need for some competition.
He said it is highly risky to develop AI that lies.
He said he wants to produce a tool that is useful for everyone including consumers and businesses.
Musk is the owner of Twitter and CEO of Tesla, an electric vehicle manufacturer.
He said he will use public tweets for training AI. He also said xAI will work with Tesla in the area of AI-assisted autonomous driving.
Amazon and Meta, formerly known as Facebook, have been stepping up the development of generative AI technology.
