The US military says it has destroyed anti-ship missiles in a Houthi rebel-controlled area of Yemen.
                
The US Central Command said its forces conducted strikes on three Houthi missiles that &quot;were aimed into the Southern Red Sea and were prepared to launch.&quot;
                
It said it carried out the strikes on Friday at around 6:45 p.m. local time.
                
The Central Command said it determined the missiles presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and US Navy ships in the region.
                
It added the action &quot;will make international waters safe.&quot;
                
US media outlets report it is the sixth time the US military has struck Houthi sites.
                
The US government on Wednesday announced the designation of the Houthis as a specially designated global terrorist group.
                
But the rebels continue to carry out attacks on vessels in the region. They launched ballistic missiles into waters near a tanker on Thursday.
