Top samba dancers hit Rio streets, as Carnival reaches climax NHK

The famed Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is in full swing, as the extravaganza culminates in parades featuring top samba teams.



The special parades that started on Sunday night feature Rio's top 12 samba schools, each consisting of roughly 3,000 members, parading down a 700-meter stretch of street with elaborately-decorated floats.



Dancers hit the streets and dance to samba music, as the carnival rages on.



Many teams incorporate African culture and religion into their performances. A participant stressed the importance of respecting and accepting different cultures.



The special parades will continue through Wednesday morning. The carnival, which kicked off last Friday, will run through Saturday.
