Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he agrees with US President Donald Trump's view that Ukraine does not have enough weapons to regain control of Crimea by force. Zelenskyy was speaking to reporters on Friday at a residential area in Kyiv where 12 people were killed in a Russian missile attack. He visited the site with other countries' ambassadors to Ukraine and laid flowers. Zelenskyy said territories occupied by Russia, including Crimea, are temporarily occupied and belong to Ukraine. He argued this stance is a just and legal position based on Ukraine's Constitution and international law. Zelenskyy also said sanctions and diplomatic pressure can be used to discuss the territorial issues, but only after a complete and unconditional ceasefire. Media reports say the peace plan proposed by the Trump administration includes US recognition of Russian control in Crimea, which Moscow unilaterally annexed in 2014. Some critics say the proposal is biased toward Russia.
