Japan FM Kamikawa congratulates Taiwan president-elect Lai NHK

Japan's Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko has congratulated Lai Ching-te as the president-elect of Taiwan.

Kamikawa issued a statement on Saturday, noting the smooth conduct of the democratic election, and congratulating Lai on his victory.

She said that for Japan, Taiwan is an extremely crucial partner and an important friend, with which it shares fundamental values and enjoys close economic relations and people-to-people exchanges.
