The iconic "Doctor Yellow" Shinkansen train of Central Japan Railway Company, or JR Tokai, has completed its final track inspection before retirement. The other Doctor Yellow train, owned by West Japan Railway Company, or JR West, is expected to be decommissioned around 2027. JR Tokai and JR West have one Doctor Yellow train each. In June last year, the firms announced plans to end the operations of the popular railway vehicles due to aging. Shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, crowds of railway fans gathered at Nagoya Station's Shinkansen platform to bid farewell to the popular yellow train. A 40-year-old man said he arrived about two hours early to secure a spot. He said he felt sad but at the same time happy to be able to have seen the train and wanted to say thank you. JR Tokai says it plans to put the train's front car on display at a railway museum in Nagoya City in around June. The public cannot ride Doctor Yellow trains except for special occasions and their schedules are not disclosed. Spotting one is said to bring happiness.
