Japan's Princess Kako, the second daughter of Crown Prince and Princess Akishino, visited the 2025 World Expo in Osaka on Saturday.



Princess Kako visited a gallery showcasing traditional Japanese craft works. She serves as president of the Japan Kogei Association, an organization of leading craftspeople in the country.



She experienced making Tsugaru-nuri lacquerware, which is designated by the Japanese government as an important intangible cultural asset.



The princess used wet sandpaper on a lacquered coaster to reveal a pattern, while asking a craftsman if she should apply more force.



She also viewed a large Wajima-nuri lacquerware globe together with the mayor of Wajima City, which was hit by a powerful earthquake last year.



She reportedly asked the mayor about the state of reconstruction efforts.



The princess then entered the pavilion of Brazil, where she had paid an official visit in June. She was briefed on paintings featuring various ethnic groups and cultures.



She also visited the pavilion of Peru. She went to the country on an official visit in 2023.



She watched a cooking show featuring a Peruvian octopus dish which incorporates Japanese cooking techniques.
