Monsoon rains and floods have been wreaking havoc in Malaysia and Thailand since last week. Dozens are dead and tens of thousands affected. A wide swath of communities was submerged in water, mainly in the northern Malaysian states of Kelantan and Terengganu, after last week's record rainfall. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the amount of downpour in five days was more than six months of average rainfall. Houses and roads in the affected areas were destroyed. At least 6 people have died and nearly 50,000 are being forced to evacuate. Neighboring Thailand's southern provinces have also been battered by heavy rain since late November. Officials say more than 20 people have been killed. Rains and floods have largely receded in both countries this week, but weather authorities are warning of another wave of rainfall through next week.
