Volleyball star Ishikawa enthusiastic about move to Perugia NHK

Japanese volleyball star Ishikawa Yuki says there is a chance to become the world's No.1 player after moving to Perugia in Italy's top league.

It was announced on Tuesday that Ishikawa will move to Perugia -- this season's champion -- from Milan in the same league.

Ishikawa is known for his accurate spikes and good defensive skills.

The 28-year-old spoke to reporters in Tokyo on Friday. He said one of his goals is to play with a top team. He said, "This is a big step forward. There is a chance in front of me to reach a goal -- to be the world's No.1 player."

He said he is looking forward to competing for a spot on the starting lineup.

Referring to the upcoming Paris Olympics, the captain of the Japanese squad said he wants to join Perugia in good condition after winning a medal at the Games.
