Rescuers are racing against time to find a submersible that went missing on a tour to view the deep undersea wreckage of the Titanic ocean liner in the Atlantic.
                
A US coast guard official in Boston told reporters on Tuesday afternoon that personnel are working around the clock, but have not found the vessel with five people on board.
                
The submersible operated by US firm OceanGate left eastern Canada on Sunday morning but lost contact with its support ship less than 2 hours after starting its dive.
                
The vessel is said to have the capacity to stay underwater for 96 hours, but the official said there was about 40 hours of oxygen left at the time of the news conference.
                
US and Canadian military and coast guards are deploying aircraft and a remotely-operated underwater vehicle equipped with cameras and robot arms.
                
The Titanic, which sank in 1912 on its way from Britain to the United States, rests on the ocean floor about 4,000 meters below the surface in the middle of the Atlantic.
                
Coast guards say the search is a complex operation in geological and technical terms.
