2. The court's decision was based on a lack of records confirming that Takei's father had acknowledged parenthood, despite DNA evidence linking Takei to his father's Japanese relatives.
3. Takei has appealed the decision to the Tokyo High Court and is one of around 50 stateless people in the Philippines who claim Japanese parentage, as their fathers died during the war or were repatriated, leaving them without a nationality.
