Israeli military: Hezbollah 'responsible' for large number of casualties NHK

The Israeli military claims that secondary explosions increased the number of casualties of its strikes on Hezbollah, saying the Shia Muslim group is responsible for the situation.

The Israeli forces have bombarded Hezbollah targets in Lebanon since Monday. Lebanon's health ministry says at least 558 people have been killed, including 94 women and 50 children.

An Israeli military spokesperson held a news briefing on Monday night. Showing footage, he said many secondary explosions after Israeli strikes were caused by munitions, rockets and missiles stored by Hezbollah.
He held the Hezbollah responsible.

Before the strike, the Israeli military called on people to evacuate homes and other buildings where it says Hezbollah concealed weapons.

The military says it continued attacks on the group's rocket launchers and other targets in southern Lebanon from early Tuesday morning. It says it shelled villages in the border area of southern Lebanon using artillery and tanks.

Hezbollah claimed it carried out rocket attacks on four locations, including a military airport and an explosives factory in northern Israel.

Israeli media say 90 rockets were fired, with most being intercepted. One woman was reportedly wounded by shrapnel from an intercepted missile.
