Iran's foreign minister will visit Pakistan next week in a bid to ease tensions. This comes after the two countries launched cross-border strikes last week. A joint statement issued by the two countries' foreign ministries says that Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has agreed to the invitation by his Pakistani counterpart. The statement says their ambassadors would also return to their respective posts by Friday. Pakistan had recalled its ambassador to Tehran in response to the attacks. On January 16, Iran carried out missile strikes targeting what it said was a base used by a Sunni Muslim militant group. Pakistan responded with drone attacks two days later, saying it was targeting strongholds of separatist militant groups on the Iranian side.
