Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has held a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Cambodia's government says Zelenskyy asked to submit a video statement to the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Phnom Penh next week. Cambodia currently chairs the 10-member group.
In the conversation on Tuesday, Zelenskyy conveyed his gratitude for Cambodia's firm stance against the war in Ukraine. Cambodia has shown its support since the Russian invasion began in February.
Meanwhile, Hun Sen stressed the need for a stable food supply, as Russia has suspended a UN-brokered deal on Ukrainian grain exports.
He also expressed his readiness to help Ukraine with demining, in collaboration with Japan, which brings high technology.
Hun Sen will now likely seek consensus with other ASEAN leaders on how to deliver Zelenskyy's video statement.
Cambodia has repeatedly said it wants to mediate a meeting between Ukraine and Russia at the ASEAN summit. But it has received no response from the two countries so far.
