US federal agencies say Iranian hackers tried to meddle in the US presidential election by sending information stolen from Republican Donald Trump&#039;s campaign to President Joe Biden&#039;s camp.
                
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency released a joint statement on Wednesday on what they call &quot;Iranian Election Influence Efforts.&quot;
                
The statement said Iranian cyber actors in late June and early July stole non-public information from former President Trump&#039;s campaign in cyberattacks.
                
It said they sent unsolicited emails to individuals then associated with President Biden&#039;s campaign that contained an excerpt taken from the stolen material.
                
The statement said there is &quot;currently no information indicating those recipients replied.&quot; It added that Iranian hackers also sent such stolen material to US media organizations.
                
The alleged activities took place before Biden withdrew from the presidential race. The statement says the agencies learned details about Iran&#039;s efforts to sow discord and shape the outcome of US elections.
                
The statement said, &quot;Foreign actors are increasing their election influence activities as we approach November.&quot;
                
It blamed Russia, Iran, and China for trying to &quot;exacerbate divisions in U.S. society for their own benefit.&quot;
