In Major League Baseball, Japanese pitcher Maeda Kenta has made a comeback from Tommy John surgery, taking the mound for the first time in 591 days. The Minnesota Twins right-hander was the starting pitcher in a game against the Miami Marlins in Florida on Tuesday. Maeda gave up a solo home run in the second inning. But he allowed no more runs until he left the mound in the sixth. He threw 79 pitches, allowed three hits, fanned nine batters and gave up no walks. But he was the losing pitcher as the Twins were defeated 1-0. After the game, Maeda said he was nervous for longer than usual, but that getting 9 strikeouts gave him a lot of confidence. He added that he was relieved to perform well. Maeda underwent the surgery to repair a ligament in his right elbow in September 2021.
