Russia's defense ministry says Ukraine struck a military airfield in southern Russia with US-supplied ATACMS ballistic missiles.
The ministry said on Wednesday that it had intercepted all six missiles targeting the Taganrog airfield in the border region of Rostov. It also said several soldiers were injured by missile fragments.
The ministry warned that the "attack by Western long-range weapons won't be left unanswered and corresponding measures will be taken."
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that the use of the new "Oreshnik" hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile in eastern Ukraine on November 21 was retaliation for Kyiv's use of Western long-range missiles to strike inside Russia.
