A: Yo, Tai! Heard any news recently? B: Nah, what's up? A: Check this out – there's a heatwave in Gaza, and it's causing trouble for those living in temporary shelters. B: Really? What happened to make them homeless? A: Israeli attacks forced thousands to live in tents without water or electricity – and about 90% of residential buildings got damaged! B: Whoa, that sounds tough! How hot is it there now? A: The UN says Gaza is experiencing temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius. They're worried about dehydration because of water shortages. B: That doesn't sound good... Are they managing to stay cool? A: Some are using water to spray kids and old batteries to run fans, but it's a struggle. B: Poor folks. I heard cases of starvation have risen too, despite more aid being sent in. A: Yeah, that's right. Local health authorities reported 251 deaths from malnutrition as of Saturday. The UN is asking Israel to allow more aid. B: Hope things improve soon for them... This heatwave has got to be making life even harder. ---------------- A heatwave that has engulfed the Gaza Strip has made living conditions for displaced people staying in makeshift shelters even harder. A reporter from NHK's local office says displaced residents in the town of Al-Zawaida are spraying water on children's bodies to prevent heatstroke while others are using batteries to run secondhand electric fans. A woman said they had no choice but to get used to such living conditions. Cases of starvation are also rising despite recent measures by the Israeli military to increase aid supply deliveries into Gaza.
