Ukraine says Russian missile attack on Kyiv leaves one dead, 10 wounded NHK

Ukraine says a Russian missile attack on the country's capital Kyiv has killed one person and wounded 10.

Kyiv authorities said the attack took place on Friday morning, and likely used ballistic missiles.

The city's mayor said in a social media post that the strike knocked out heating to residential buildings, medical facilities, schools and kindergartens.

Russia's defense ministry said the attack was carried out in response to a Ukrainian strike on Wednesday targeting Russian territory with long-range missiles supplied from the West.

The ministry also said Ukrainian forces used six US-supplied ATACMS operational-tactical missiles and four British-supplied long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles to attack a chemical plant in Russia's southern region of Rostov.
