Chinese carmakers have joined their Western rivals at the Paris Motor Show to promote their latest electric models.

The biennial show held a media preview on Monday.

Chinese companies are attending in force, at a time when the European Union is likely to impose additional tariffs on the country's electric vehicles.

China's largest EV manufacturer, BYD, announced the launch of a new electric SUV model, highlighting its performance and green credentials.

Other Chinese makers also showcased their new EV models to reporters.

French automaker Renault and other Western companies are offering more affordable cars to compete with low-priced Chinese models.

Some officials from Chinese automakers were seen inspecting the booths of rival companies, including Germany's Volkswagen.

Competition between European and Chinese automakers is expected to intensify as demand for EVs in Europe remains sluggish.
