Harris blasts Trump for inciting division at Washington rally NHK

Democratic US presidential candidate Kamala Harris has blasted her Republican rival Donald Trump for fanning division, one week before Election Day.

Vice President Harris held a rally in central Washington on Tuesday. She spoke at the same venue where, in January 2021, then-president Trump addressed supporters before they stormed the US Congress.

Harris accused Trump of sending "an armed mob to the United States Capitol to overturn the will of the people in a free and fair election," despite knowing he lost.

Harris described Trump as "someone who is unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed with grievance and out for unchecked power."

She said, "Donald Trump has spent a decade trying to keep the American people divided and afraid of each other."

Harris appealed for support, saying: "It is time to turn the page on the drama and the conflict, the fear and division. It is time for a new generation of leadership."

The race remains neck-and-neck. Observers say Harris is hoping to win over undecided voters by calling into question Trump's personal qualities to serve as president.
