Zelenskyy: Talks on Russian-held lands for later NHK

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his view that the issue of Russian-controlled Ukrainian territories will be discussed at a later date.

On Saturday, Zelenskyy said at a news conference that the question of Russian-occupied territories is "complicated," adding that it must be discussed later. Such territories include four eastern and southern regions and Crimea.

Observers say he made the remark to indicate his priority on talks with US President Donald Trump's administration. The US is seeking an early ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, but Moscow has yet to say whether it will accept the US-led deal. Zelenskyy said Ukraine will coordinate with the US on the next steps in the coming days.

Zelenskyy also referred to the situation in the western Russian region of Kursk, where Ukrainian forces have been engaging in cross-border attacks. He denied Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement that Russian forces have encircled the Ukrainian forces there. Zelenskyy said Putin lies, and insisted that the Ukrainian forces in Kursk are not encircled.
Summary
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy views the Russian-occupied territories, including Crimea and four eastern and southern regions, as a complex issue to be addressed later. He emphasized this view in a news conference on Saturday, possibly signaling his focus on talks with the U.S.
