China has hit back at the top US diplomat for congratulating Lai Ching-te on his victory in Taiwan's presidential election.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson issued a comment on Sunday criticizing US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's statement.
The comment said the US statement "seriously violates the one-China principle" and "sends a gravely wrong signal to the 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces."
The spokesperson went on to say that Beijing strongly deplored and firmly opposed Washington's message. The comment also said China has lodged a protest with the US side.
