US computer chip maker Nvidia posted a sharp rise in revenue and profit in the quarter to January, thanks to strong demand for chips used in generative AI systems.
In its results for the 4th quarter released on Wednesday, the California-based company reported revenue of 22.1 billion dollars, up 265 percent from a year earlier.
Net income was 12.285 billion dollars, up 769 percent from the same period the previous year.
Both results were stronger than market expectations.
As the use of generative AI spreads around the world, demand has soared for Nvidia's graphic processing units, or GPUs, including those designed for data centers.
The chip maker is predicting revenue of around 24 billion dollars for the February-April quarter.
Nvidia shares have gained 36 percent so far this year. Last week, Nvidia briefly became the third most valuable US company, overtaking Amazon and Google's parent firm, Alphabet.
