Osaka Expo racks up 1 million visitors NHK

The 2025 World Expo in Osaka, western Japan, has welcomed its millionth visitor.



The organizer of the expo, which opened on April 13, says the number of visitors, including staff, hit the milestone on Wednesday afternoon.



At a ceremony to mark the occasion, Miyamori Makoto from Osaka City, who came to the event with his family, received presents including goods featuring Myaku-Myaku, the expo's official character.



Miyamori said he never expected to be the millionth visitor. He said he was surprised and feels very lucky.



The average number of visitors per day stood at about 76,000 as of Tuesday, or 92,000 if staff are included. The number falls short of the expected average daily figure of about 150,000.
