New video of Hu leaving China's communist party congress sparks speculation NHK

New video footage has emerged showing former Chinese President Hu Jintao before his removal from the Communist Party's National Congress. Speculation has been rife after he was escorted out on Saturday.

Hu, who was sitting next to President Xi Jinping, was whisked out of the closing ceremony of the congress.

The new footage was released by Singapore CNA on Tuesday.

It shows that documents apparently belonging to Hu were taken away by Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress Chairman Li Zhanshu. Li was sitting next to Hu.

The video shows Li holding the documents on the desk while speaking to Hu. Officials then escorted Hu out midway through the ceremony, apparently after speaking with Xi.

A post on state-run Xinhua News Agency's English-language Twitter account on Saturday stated that Hu left early because of his deteriorating health. He was taken to a room next to the venue for a rest.

People in China cannot access Twitter freely because of the government's tight grip on the Internet.

Four days have passed since the closing of the congress, but speculation continues about Hu's abrupt exit, including his health problems and political background.
