An autumn festival based on a giant camphor tree drew visitors in Japan's southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima. The Aira City tree has a 24-meter trunk, and is estimated to be 1,500 years old. It's believed to be the largest camphor tree in the country. About 40 stalls were set up in a schoolyard near the shrine that houses the tree. Many festival goers visited the stalls to buy fresh local produce and eat freshly grilled rice cakes. A drum performance by local children added excitement to the event. Organizers also raised 7.5-meter scarecrows at the venue. They were made by local residents as an appeal to god for a good harvest.
