The Philippine government says it will not help the International Criminal Court investigate the so-called "war on drugs" campaign. The brutal anti-narcotics crackdown led by former President Rodrigo Duterte left thousands dead. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reiterated on Tuesday that his administration does not recognize ICC jurisdiction in his nation. He also said he considers the court a threat to Philippine sovereignty and his government "will not lift a finger" to help. The justice ministry also said on Tuesday that since the country has withdrawn from the ICC, it has no legal duty to comply with any court proceedings. Last July, the ICC rejected a Philippine appeal to halt investigations into the crackdown, which the government says killed at least 6,200 people. In 2019, Manila officially left the international court, but Marcos said last November his country was studying the issue and considering all its options.
