The operator of the Uniqlo clothing chain says it will raise its starting monthly salary in Japan by 10 percent, in a bid to secure more workers. Fast Retailing says base pay for new recruits joining from April will be 330,000 yen, or about 2,100 dollars. The change is part of the company's new wage structure to be introduced in March for domestic employees. The apparel giant also plans to grant promotions to more staff, based on their skills and performance. Fast Retailing aims to increase its competitiveness through greater investment in human resources.
