Fans in Japan are rooting for Japanese Major League Baseball superstar Ohtani Shohei after he announced he will join the Los Angeles Dodgers next season. A special edition newspaper with the headlines "Ohtani Dodgers" and "101.5 billion yen for 10 years," were handed out in Tokyo's Ginza district. The 1,000 copies were gone in about 30 minutes as shoppers received them one after another. A man in his 60s who came from Osaka said it was good because Ohtani wanted to go to a team that can aim for the championship. He said that he wants Ohtani to do his best in the next 10 years without getting injured. A woman in her 20s in Tokyo said that the amount is unimaginable, but added that she is proud that a Japanese person is appreciated that much. A 12-year-old boy from Saitama said he hopes Ohtani will continue to do his best as a two-way player and win the home run king title. In Shibuya, a 19-year-old man said he is happy to hear the news as he hails from Iwate Prefecture, where Ohtani was raised. He also said he wants Ohtani to remain a two-way player with the Dodgers, but take good care of himself as he previously damaged a ligament. A woman in her 20s said that Ohtani is very inspiring to others, as he keeps on doing his best even when he had injuries. She added that Japan needs a person like him and thanks to Ohtani more people want to play baseball. Another man in his 20s said Ohtani is worth more than what the team is paying for him. Citizens in Japan's northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido are surprised and happy upon hearing the news. Ohtani played for the Nippon-Ham Fighters, which is based in Hokkaido. A woman in her 40s said that she feels like watching her own son growing to be a great player, as she rooted for him when he was with the team. Another woman from Hokkaido said Ohtani is a true Japanese star who is doing far better than his days in Japan and that she wants him to get more titles next season as a hitter. A man in his 20s said he wants Ohtani to have a good season. He added that he is grateful to the manager Kuriyama Hideki, who helped train Ohtani during his days with Nippon-Ham.
