An ethnic minority armed group guarding Myanmar's eastern border with Thailand continues its crackdown on one of alleged scam hubs in the area. It has reportedly freed thousands of foreigners from fraud centers there.

The armed group BGF launched its raid on KK Park on Saturday. It is among the suspected hubs where a number of foreigners are believed to have been forced to engage in scam operations.

Local media outlets reported that, as of Monday, about 6,500 people had been set free from KK Park and other sites. The BGF is arranging for them to be moved to Thailand.

There have been no reports so far of Japanese nationals among the freed foreigners.

On Monday, four Philippine nationals who claimed to have fled a criminal hub swam across a border river into Thailand, according to an activists' group. They were taken into protective custody by the Thai military.

The BGF plans to continue the crackdown on Tuesday. Members of criminal groups running the fraud hubs are said to be fleeing the sites.
