Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio is set to reshuffle his Cabinet and the Liberal Democratic Party's leadership on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, he was working on personnel selections after the LDP gave him free rein in the matter.

Kishida plans to appoint former Justice Minister Kamikawa Yoko as the new Foreign Minister.

The prime minister plans to keep Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu and Finance Minister Suzuki Shunichi in their current positions.

He also plans to retain Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Nishimura Yasutoshi, Digital Transformation Minister Kono Taro, and Economic Security Minister Takaichi Sanae in their current posts.

Kishida is considering retaining Saito Tetsuo of junior coalition partner Komeito in his current post of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Minister, at the request of the party.

He is also set to name Suzuki Junji as Internal Affairs and Communications Minister; Kihara Minoru as Defense Minister; and Moriyama Masahito as Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Minister.

Koizumi Ryuji is likely to be appointed as Justice Minister; Miyashita Ichiro, as Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister; and Kato Ayuko as Children's Policy Minister.

Upper House members Takemi Keizo, Matsumura Yoshifumi and Jimi Hanako are expected to join the Cabinet.

For the LDP leadership, Kishida intends to keep Vice President Aso Taro, Secretary General Motegi Toshimitsu, Policy Research Council Chairperson Hagiuda Koichi and Diet Affairs Committee Chairperson Takagi Tsuyoshi in their current positions.

He plans to name the Chairperson of the Election Strategy Committee Moriyama Hiroshi as General Council Chairperson.

Moriyama is likely to be replaced by Obuchi Yuko, currently the head of the Party Organization and Campaign Headquarters.

Kishida is set to announce a new LDP leadership on Wednesday morning, and reshuffle his Cabinet later in the day.
