US Senators to visit China, hope to meet President Xi: US media report NHK

A bipartisan group of US Senators, including Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, are reportedly planning to visit China next week with hopes of meeting President Xi Jinping.

Bloomberg reported on Monday that a Republican Senator in the entourage expressed confidence that more dialogue would lead to more opportunities and possibilities to resolve conflict between Beijing and Washington.

Since June, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and other key members of President Joe Biden's administration have been visiting China in an attempt to stabilize ties through dialogue.

Biden has expressed readiness to meet with Xi on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in San Francisco in November. Attention is likely to focus on whether the Senators' visit will help realize the meeting.
