The Japanese government says it will provide an emergency grant of 10 million dollars to help address the worsening humanitarian situation in Lebanon. The fighting continues there between the Israeli military and the Shia Muslim group Hezbollah. Japanese officials say the emergency aid will be used to provide daily necessities including food and other items and services to local residents through the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, the World Food Programme and other organizations. The government says it will continue calling on Israel and Hezbollah to reach an immediate ceasefire. It also says it is urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint and make sincere efforts for a diplomatic settlement. Meanwhile, the Israeli military said on Sunday that it struck a Hezbollah intelligence command center and a weapons manufacturing site in Beirut. Hezbollah fired about 100 rockets toward northern Israel.
