More than 300 people from the Hollywood filmmaking industry have gathered to learn about Japanese video content production at an event in Los Angeles. The meeting was organized by the Japan External Trade Organization, or JETRO, and other groups to promote Japanese content in the US. At Wednesday's seminar, film editor Miyake Aika appeared on stage with other Japanese panelists who are involved in filmmaking in Hollywood. Miyake is known for editing the historical TV drama series "Shogun," which this year won a record number of Emmy awards. The award-winning film director Koreeda Hirokazu also addressed the audience. He drew cheers when he revealed that he plans to make a film in the US and that he has already begun consultations with various people about it. Koreeda told reporters that he is working through trial and error because it would be the first time for him to make a film targeting US audiences. He said Japanese filmmakers need to consider how to attract American movie-goers to live-action movies in the same way they do with animation films, and that he thinks the time is now ripe.
