G7 health ministers to visit Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum next May NHK

NHK has learned that adjustments are underway to ensure that health ministers from the Group of 7 countries will visit an atomic bomb museum when they gather at the southwestern Japanese city of Nagasaki next year.

Japan will chair the G7 summit to be held in the atomic bomb-hit western city of Hiroshima in May next year. The summit will be accompanied by 14 ministerial meetings that will be held across Japan.

Health ministers are scheduled to gather at the Dejima Messe Nagasaki event and exhibition hall for two days starting May 13.

Sources say that the Japanese government is working to see that the ministers visit the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum during the occasion.

The city of Nagasaki and Nagasaki Prefecture, which are to jointly host the ministerial meeting, hope the ministers will learn the true extent of the devastation unleashed by the atomic bombs.

The plan will be finalized only after health ministry officials give their approval after visiting Nagasaki city Thursday and Friday.
