Search underway for missing GSDF helicopter NHK

Search and rescue efforts are underway for a Japan Ground Self-Defense Force helicopter that went missing south of Okinawa.

Coast Guard officials say they've found debris and an oil slick near where the aircraft went missing.

The GSDF Black Hawk was flying near the island of Miyakojima. It disappeared from radar around 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Japan's Defense Ministry says the helicopter was carrying 10 personnel -- including Lieutenant General Sakamoto Yuichi, the head of the GSDF's 8th Division.

Few details have been released, but officials say the aircraft likely went down by accident.
The search efforts involve Coast Guard vessels and Self-Defense Force units.
