The record heat wave in India shows no sign of dying down. Scorching weather in recent months has claimed dozens of lives across the country. Local media say India is experiencing one of its longest and deadliest summers. In the eastern state of Odisha, at least 41 people reportedly died of heatstroke. The Meteorological Department says heat waves have been most frequent in Odisha this season, followed by the northern state of Rajasthan. The heat is also hammering New Delhi. On Friday, the temperature in the capital hit 45 degrees Celsius. Construction workers are worried about the effect the sizzling weather is having on their health, so they take breaks when they can. One worker said: "Yes, it's extremely hot. We don't want to work in this heat, but we do so to feed ourselves, our children and families, and take care of their needs. We have to earn." India's six-week-long general election concluded earlier this month. Workers at polling stations are reportedly among those who perished in the torrid conditions. Weather officials have issued heat wave warnings as the impact on people's health is feared to continue in the coming days.
