M-6.3 quake in southern Turkey has killed 3, injured hundreds NHK

Another strong earthquake in Turkey's border region near Syria has killed three people and injured hundreds.

The US Geological Survey says the magnitude-6.3 quake hit southern Turkey just after 8 p.m. local time on Monday.

Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said that in addition to the three dead, the quake injured 213 in the country.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that more than 470 people were injured in Syria.

The temblor has caused fears among those who evacuated after the magnitude-7.8 earthquake in the region on February 6 and following jolts.

The quakes have left more than 47,000 dead -- over 41,000 in Turkey and nearly 6,000 in Syria.

In the hard-hit Turkish city of Kahramanmaras, people are still searching rubble two weeks after the huge quake for items used by their late loved ones.

At a shelter, many evacuees are visiting a barbershop built with tarps and wood.

Turkish disaster preparedness authorities say more than 1 million people are still forced to live in tents or other types of shelter. Media reporters say long-term support is needed for people in evacuation for extended periods.
