Tornado kills at least 5, injures dozens in southern China NHK

A tornado has killed at least five people in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong. Dozens of others were injured.

The state-run Xinhua news agency says more than 140 buildings were damaged as the tornado traveled about 1 kilometer through the city of Guangzhou on Saturday afternoon.

Footage released by state-run China Central Television shows the tornado moving beneath gray clouds.

A video filmed by a local resident shows strong winds swaying trees.

Footage taken on Sunday shows the extent of the damage with debris scattered across the area.

Earlier this month, four people were killed in Guangdong Province in floods and landslides triggered by record rainfall.
