Fire at school dormitory kills 13 people in China's Henan Province NHK

China's state-run media has reported that a fire at a school dormitory in the inland province of Henan left 13 people dead and one injured on Friday.

The state-run Xinhua news agency reported that firefighters received a call about a fire in the city of Nanyang at around 11:00 p.m. The agency says that the fire was put out around 40 minutes later and the injured person is being treated at a hospital.

Pictures distributed by the agency show charred windows at the dormitory.

Some Chinese media outlets have identified the facility as a private school for kindergarten and elementary school students.

Details on the extent of the damage have not been released.

Local authorities have reportedly detained an official in charge of the school, and they are investigating the cause of the fire.
