US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is set to visit China from Thursday.
The US Treasury Department announced on Sunday that Yellen will be in Beijing from July 6 to 9 to meet senior Chinese officials.
The visit will be her first to China as treasury secretary under the administration of President Joe Biden.
The department says Yellen will discuss with Chinese officials the importance of the two countries' communicating directly about areas of concern and working together to address global challenges.
The Biden administration has restricted exports to China of semiconductors and other products that could be used in military applications.
But the government has stressed that it will continue to engage with China economically in other areas.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited China last month to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, top diplomat Wang Yi and other officials. The two sides confirmed that they will continue to hold talks aimed at stabilizing bilateral relations.
Attention is focused on whether Yellen's visit will help improve the strained relations between the world's two largest economies.
