At a hearing at the House Ways and Means Committee, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told lawmakers that the talks were successful. But he urged China to be a &quot;reliable partner&quot; in trade negotiations.
Bessent said if China &quot;will course correct by upholding its end of the initial trade agreement&quot; outlined at the Geneva talks last month, then the rebalancing of the world&#039;s two largest economies is possible.
        
                    
                  
The discussions lasted late into the night on Tuesday.
The two sides finally agreed on a framework for easing trade tensions, building on the consensus reached in Switzerland.
